PSYCHOLOGICAL RESOURCE ASSOCIATES
THE FAMILY AND THE TROUBLED CHILD
Make the family aware that this is a serious problem confronting the entire family.
Explore your own feelings about this critical problem and how it is affecting yourself and the whole family.
Explain to any other children in the family what may be involved in understanding the problem and its ramifications.
Relatives, friends, and neighbors can often give valuable help in understanding and coping with the problem.
Simplify household routines to make life easier during this strenuous period.
Do not panic. Solutions are often arrived at in a calm environment when patient problem solving works best.
If, after a while, no changes or adjustments have been successful, seek professional help.
Above all maintain an optimistic attitude. Big problems often take longer to solve and it is not wise to make drastic changes in where you live or where you send children to school.
